Welcome to Thrive Emerge

A Letter From Rick Silver

The remainder of this website will guide you through the specifics of the services and programs that we offer to meet a variety of mental health needs arising from the neurodivergent brain – that is, those of us with ADHD/ Executive Dysfunction and/ or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Although brains and psyches can be “neuro-interesting” in many ways, these are the key people that we have served for many years and for whom our work and team is specialized.

I would like to take a moment to review our underlying treatment philosophy – the heart of who we are as a treatment center. It is because of our special way of caring that Thrive has been able, over the years, to draw into its family of patients many people looking for services that resonated for them on a deeper, more meaningful level.

At the core of our work is relationship, community and – dare I say it? – love. Love can of course mean many things, but for our treatment team it connotes service to others that begins with validation of each person’s unique experience of the world.

With emotional suffering often comes shame; and the safety needed to be open and vulnerable to do the hard work of personal change begins with acknowledgement, acceptance and normalization – by your caregivers, your peers who might be joining you in treatment groups and the family who supports you in your growth

It is only within the context of this community – of tribe, if you will – that we can grow and heal.  We are by our deepest nature creatures that seek connection.  None of us heals in isolation – only in the letting go that comes with stable, co-regulating relationships.

Also at the root of healing is a sense of self-regulation, of internal stability that gives us the sense of confidence and control that allows us to weather not only the demands of the outside world but the internal storms that can overwhelm us as well.  Treatment must involve gathering and practicing those skills that ground and center us in the part of our nervous systems built to bring us “home” emotionally. The degree to which we can shape our inner experience determines the resilience with which we can shape our outside life as well.

Healing is a long journey, and the energy and stamina needed to face the challenges of yet another day grows from a sense of hopefulness.  And hope itself flows from the progress we perceive as we reach our specific treatment goals and gain useful mental health skills; and from the confidence we gain as we repeatedly bounce back from setbacks and failures – difficult but inevitable aspects of all learning.  Our work at Thrive allows people to both dig as deeply as necessary to explore root causes of suffering; and to identify clear behavioral, cognitive and emotional goals by which we can measure the increments of growth.

And a special word for the young adults that we serve:  neuroatypicality can be tough.  As wonderful as each of our young adults are to us as the treatment team, we also see the toll that struggling with a world that just doesn't get you has taken.  How you grew up thinking, feeling, socializing, doing school, pursuing your interests – all of these things that made sense to you inside often seemed confusing or even wrong to those around you. We have the good fortune of having been able to create a great community of young adults that have become a safe family to one another as they pursue their own growth.  We invite you to explore the ways that you might become part of this family as well.

We look forward to getting to know you.  We have years of experience that has shown us that each person who we have the blessing to serve can – with time and care – manifest that “divine spark” with which we are all born and which is the light that guides us to a joyful and fulfilling life.

In partnership,
Rick Silver
