Substance and Screen Overuse

Young adults often develop coping patterns to deal with anxiety – like marijuana and screen overuse – that are rooted in emotional numbing and avoiding life stressors.

Our addictions/ overuse services help them gain awareness of these patterns and replace them with healthier coping behaviors.

Services for dealing with these issues include:

The Screen Detox

An eight-week program involving the young adult and the parents to remove exposure to screens/ electronics, to support the parents in setting appropriate consequences, to build emotional self regulation skills and to structure a daily schedule that occupies the young adult in productive activities and active engagement in school, social activities and employment.

The Addictions/Overuse Treatment Group

Our Thrive clinical team helps the young adult find support with one another in exploring their roots of their overuse, improving coping skills and developing relapse prevention skills if they are in the process of being abstinent from their addiction.

Individual Counseling

For some young adults, individual attention is required to overcome addictive and overuse behaviors.  Typically, meetings are weekly for 1 hour to explore deeper emotional issues that drive unhealthy coping and to develop more effective tools for managing anxiety and the stresses of adult life.
