Navigating Failure to Launch: Understand the Root Cause, Set Healthy Boundaries, and Choose the Right Support for Your Neurodivergent Teen
Comprehensive Workshops for Parents
Since 2004, Thrive Emerge has pioneered comprehensive, wrap-around programming to help neurodivergent teens and young adults overcome "failure to launch" and confidently transition into independence.
Founded by Dr. Rick Silver—a Johns Hopkins-trained psychiatrist who brings decades of clinical expertise and deeply personal lived experience raising neurodivergent children—our highly trained team understands the complexities of ADHD, Autism, and anxiety from the inside out.
We specialize in translating the unique workings of the neurodivergent brain into compassionate, actionable care for individuals facing executive dysfunction, severe transition anxiety, and screen overuse.
Our mission is to provide your family with the expert guidance and clinical scaffolding necessary to break the cycle of conflict, recover lost confidence, and help your young adult succeed.
A Free 3-Session Online Series to Equip You with Root-Cause Insights, Boundary-Setting Strategies, and a Clear Roadmap for Choosing the Right Support
Identify the root causes of failure to launch and find the right starting point for your neurodivergent young adult.
When a neurodivergent teen or young adult struggles, it often looks like a failure to launch. However, this is rarely a single diagnosis. Underneath, your young adult may be dealing with executive dysfunction, emotional dysregulation, gaming overuse, social isolation, or untreated psychiatric symptoms.
This workshop helps you take an inventory of the most common areas interfering with their daily functioning. You will learn to recognize what these problems look like at home and discover practical responses—from strategies you can apply immediately to targeted professional supports.

#1 Why Are They Stuck?
October 21, 6:30-8:00pm
Learn to distinguish supportive scaffolding from rescuing to help your young adult build genuine independence and life skills.
Parents of neurodivergent teens and young adults often find themselves trapped between doing too much and fearing everything will fall apart if they stop helping.
In this session, we examine everyday family patterns around reminders, chores, money, appointments, and living at home. You will learn how to establish clearer expectations, reduce repetitive conflicts, and gradually transfer responsibility in ways that respect your young person’s actual developmental abilities.
Whether navigating returning college students or shifting from a "manager" role to a supportive one, this workshop provides actionable strategies for promoting competence rather than simply replacing it.
#2 Helping Without Taking Over Plan
To Be Announced
Become an informed consumer of neurodivergent care by matching specific functional challenges with the right level of support.
Families face a bewildering and expensive menu of possible interventions, from executive-function coaching and DBT to intensive outpatient programs. But more care is not automatically better care.
This workshop empowers parents to ask the right questions before purchasing new services. We explore what families can reasonably address themselves, when a short-term intervention is enough, and when more intensive treatment is truly warranted.
You will leave with a practical framework for considering cost, expected benefit, and measurable outcomes so you can confidently choose the next one or two steps to pursue for your young adult in the new year.
